Bridie Gane appointed as Dance Artist at Scottish Dance Theatre
We’re delighted to share that Bridie Gane has been appointed as the new Dance Artist at Scottish Dance Theatre. We have been contributing funding to this position since 2023, when John Ross took up the post. We wish him all the best with the next stage of his career and look forward to seeing Bridie build upon his wonderful legacy of community work and engagement.
Bridie was born in Bristol and trained at The Northern School of contemporary Dance (Leeds) before moving to Berlin in 2013. During her time in Germany, her solo choreography ‘BIM BAM BUM’ won the first prize and audience prize at Euro Scene Leipzig’s competition for ‘The Best German Dance Solo’ (2014), as well as a further two awards at 3..2..1.. Dance competition in Krakow, Poland (2014).
She was an Associate Artist with Dance Base, Edinburgh, from 2019-21 and was chosen from an open call process for a Choreographer Placement Artist with Scottish Dance Theatre in 2023, spending one week working with the company, drawing on her ongoing research into a work inspired by the Borders-based textile designer Bernat Klein. For several years she worked with the Junior Conservatoire at The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
Her work utilises strong musicality, physicality and humour, spanning live performance for the stage and outdoor locations, dance film and dance works with and for young people.
She describes herself as, “a choreographer based in Scotland creating theatrical dance works that utilise wit and whimsy. I believe that dance is a powerful communicator of complex thoughts and feelings and am passionate about making dance performance that is engaging and accessible to a wide ranging audience.”
